Abstract

This document presents an abstract discussing the influence of Imam Ghazali (1053-1111) on subsequent thinkers, particularly Ahmad Donish (1827-1897). Imam Ghazali, renowned for his works on religion, philosophy, logic, Sufism, theology, ethics, and state policy, had a significant impact on the worldviews of various writers and thinkers who came after him. The abstract specifically focuses on the similarities between Ghazali's 'Kimyoi saodat' ('Chemistry of Happiness') and Donish's 'Navodir ul-vaqoe'. 'Kimyoi Saodat', written in Persian in the 5th century AH, is a famous Sufi and religious book covering various religious, mystical, and ethical issues. On the other hand, 'Navodir ul-vaqoe' by Ahmad Donish addresses philosophical, socio-political, and ethical topics, including family rights and relationships. The abstract indicates that there are numerous common aspects in the moral, social, philosophical, and religious ideas of these two great thinkers. It suggests that Ahmad Donish likely drew inspiration from past thinkers, including Imam Ghazali, when expressing his views on life, death, family matters, and marital relations. An interesting insight from this abstract is the enduring influence of Imam Ghazali's work across centuries. Despite the significant time gap between Ghazali (11th century) and Donish (19th century), their works show remarkable similarities in addressing fundamental human concerns. This suggests a continuity of thought in Islamic philosophy and ethics, where newer thinkers build upon and adapt the ideas of their predecessors to address the issues of their time. The abstract also hints at the evolving nature of these ideas, as it mentions that the article examines differences in the views of the two thinkers on common issues, indicating that while there is continuity, there is also adaptation and development of thought over time.
